Perfect must buy if your kids is in gems or geodes. Great book. I love how it breaks it down as to explaining the different kinds. Perfect book for my seven year old to learn about where, how, why, what kind, what they are used for type of book.
This book is absolutely amazing. This is coming from a mom that owns HUNDREDS of children books ranging from baby through those "young adult" books that grown ups are loving. We have a lot of educational books on various subjects. My kids are really into rocks these days so for Christmas I added this & another book that looked promising to our 'library.' Both books are incredible. They arrived looking brand new (which was a miracle after how the box itself looked). Both books were clearly made very well. Absolutely a high quality product! The pictures are filled with pictures & offer a perfect reading aide. And the reading material is wonderful. The books are formated so well that my first grade spent a whole hour looking through them both (we are lucky if we get five minutes usually) after he had already been through them several times. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering it.
while this book is a bit mature for my 4 year old who is already showing a big interest in rocks and minerals, i definitely wouldn't hesitate to purchase it for children ages 9-11 who are interested in the topic. it's a beautifully made with very bright, colorful photographs that make identification much easier. the language is fine for older children to understand and i would consider this a must have for any budding rock and mineral collector's library! when my daughter gets a bit older i'm sure she will love it!
My other Grand Daughter loves the book. I'm a retired Geologist so I had a great time explaining the significance of the rocks and the geologic processes that were diagrammed in the book.
Makes a great kid's gift. Include a small bag of random rocks for them to start identifying.
Purchased for a grand daughter who is all into collecting rocks. This is a really nice beginner book that explains where various rocks come from and how to identify them. For younger kids it will require some adult assistance until they get the concept down on how to identify rocks. I would give it 5 stars, but I've not been able to get any feedback from the grandchild.
I bought this gift for my nephew's golden birthday (6) as his theme was dinosaurs. Wanting to deviate from the usual Jurassic Park play sets and plastic T-Rex, I decided to get him something that would pique his sponge-like brain. It was a hit! This book was well-illustrated and educational. It was accompanied by the "Dancing Bear Rock and Mineral Educational Collection & Collection Box -18 Pieces." I bought this separately. A very nice and creative set indeed!
The book was cut poorly and the cover put on backwards and upside down. See video for reference.
