I'm very impressed with Raw Energy. I've been looking for ways to add more raw food to my diet, but not necessarily at dinner. And I don't have time, nor the organization, for raw food cookbooks that make you start an entree 3-5 days ahead of time to sprout, soak and dehydrate the creation. This book focuses on snacks.I like that most recipes use ingredients I already have around the house. There are a few with more exotic ingredients like spirulina powder, but these are easy to skip over if you don't wish to buy the ingredient. Each recipe is fairly simple and straight forward. Most use a blender or food processor, a few use a dehydrator (but if you're into raw food, you probably already have these anyhow). There are lots of recipes that omit frequently allergic ingredients such as dairy, egg or gluten so I can make snacks for my friend with food allergies.I just made Cashew Maple Oatmeal Squares and they taste just like an out-of-the-oven oatmeal cookie, but cold. There's also recipes for breakfast cereals, "milk"shakes and smoothies, dips, trail mixes and lots of desserts. This book is going to be getting a lot of use at my house.

I really cannot say enough about it--this book has made quite an entrance in our house. My 14 year old daughter who has never read cookbooks looks through it every day and is truly fascinated with the recipes. They make the simple ingredients into fantastic little energy snacks that everyone in the family love!!! We don't care so much about the fact that they are raw recipes, although that's great, but just that they're wonderful tasty and healthy tidbits. We all love chocolate and little sweet snacks and we've made several of the balls for the fridge. My daughter has made a few of the smoothies and I've been making the muesli for breakfast several times a week for months. I've also made the parfaits for a snack after school, and we are going to try some of the dehydrated balls this week. We've had it for months and the excitement hasn't died--even my picky husband likes the treats from this book!!! Just love it so much, MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS, PLEASE!!!!!

I absolutely love this book!I love the simplistic instructions and descriptions that are located in the beginning of the book, since there were some ingredients for recipes that I was a bit confused about (never hearing of some things). But the ingredients were not hard for me to find as most were found in my local grocery store or in my local health food store. The ingredients also were not very expensive. One thing that may get expensive is the use of dried fruits and such, but if you have a food dehydrator then save money and dry them yourself! In the back of this book there is a list not only of the resources used for this book, but also of recommendations for other books to read, as well as websites. Love that this is there! I have checked a few out and so far I find them really helpful and some are even fascinating.I am a college student who struggles with finding tasty, healthy food that I can afford. While for many recipes you need a dehydrator or maybe a food processor or blender, which these items can be pricey if you do not already own them, but the recipes themselves are not expensive if you take into consideration of how many servings are made and so on. Over the last two years I have saved up for, and gotten as holiday gifts, the tools/appliances needed in this book so there were no extra expenses for me. But for people who don't already own some of these tools may have some trouble with a few of the recipes in this book. But there are still plenty of great recipes that do not involve expensive appliances also.I read some reviews who dislike the fact that there are no images of the finished recipe product. I was concerned about this as well but the recipes are so very specific in the instructions and in the ingredient list, and the beginning of the book explains the author's personal definitions of the terms she uses so we know what she means in her instructions. So basically I am saying that it didn't turn out to be an issue of mine. These recipes really don't need step-by-step photos or finished product photos. I am a beginner with raw foods and "cooking" and as long as you pay attention to the instructions your will do very well. Also, the pages are in color and the colors are vibrant. I love the look of each page!I think this book deserves 5 stars, most definitely. Especially for the price.

There are many raw snack foods listed along with their health benefits. And, of course, organic is recommended whenever possible. The chapters lay out like this: Raw Snack Basics; Raw Snack Pantry & Kitchen Equipment Essentials; Raw Snack Prep 101: Learning How to "Uncook"; Super-Satisfying Raw Nut Milks, Shakes, Smoothies, and Frozen Fruit Creams; Fit And Fabulous Fruit And Vegetable Juices; The Snacks That Keep You Going: Energizer Bars, Balls, And Bites; Powerhouse Nut, Seed, And Fruit Blends; Raw Cereals And Delectable Fruit Parfaits; Vegetable Jolt: Crispy Chips, Zippy Dips, And Scrumptious Spreads; Chillin' Fresh, Cold Fruit And Vegetable Soups; Raw Confections: No-Guilt, Nutrient-Packed Candy and Cookies; Suggested Reading; Resources; Index. Doesn't that sound muy interesante?Sometimes, many of the ingredients...including nuts and seeds are not reasonably priced. Also, the energy required to run a dehydrator with no heat so that you don't destroy enzymes can be excessive.I will keep the book and revisit it...there is a lot to learn from it. Even if you're not a vegetarian, or a vegan or a "raw foodie" (what DO you call that??), you can still adapt in small ways to improve the benefit from the foods you eat.

What a wonderful book! Every recipe I have tried so far has been easy to make with delicious results. The book promotes a raw diet however these recipes can be used by anyone wishing to add healthful snacks to their routine. It also includes many alternatives to store bought energy bars and snacks that have chemicals, preservatives or corn syrup that you may not want in your diet. This book is worth having in your cookbook library!

In 1990 Jungian psychologist Robert Moore and co-author Douglas Gillette wrote King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine.Moore and Gillette referred to four blueprints, in Stu Weber's Tender Warrior: Every Man's Purpose, Every Woman's Dream, Every Child's Hope he calls them fingerprints. All the authors argue that in order to become a complete man, a man must be intentional in his efforts to develop in all four areas of his life.Weber's blueprints are:- King- Warrior- Mentor- FriendLike Moore and Gillette, Weber believes that men of all ages struggle with similar circumstances faced by other men who are husbands and fathers, married and single men of all ages and backgrounds. To illustrate and explain these pillars, Weber uses a variety of examples from his personal experience in life, in relationships, in the ministry, and in the military especially from his days serving in Vietnam.Here-in lay one of the weaknesses of the book. This fresh new copy of Tender Warrior: Every Man's Purpose, Every Woman's Dream, Every Child's Hope is a reprint of material originally published in 1993 and 1999. Thus most of the illustrations and the referenced materials are twenty years old. While true and accurate, some of the twenty year old illustrations do have a dated feel to them. That may not bother fifty year olds, but younger men seeking to become a Tender Warrior may have a harder time seeing the relevance of the illustrations. That said, each chapter has some meaningful information and most importantly, it's followed by a relevant discussion guide useful for personal, mentorship or small group use.Weber covers these eleven areas of manhood:A Man Faces HimselfA Man and His Pro-VisionA Man and His RootsA Man's Greatest StrengthA Man's Tender SideA Man and His LeadershipA Man and His Lady, Parts 1, 2 & 3A Man and His Children, Parts 1, 2 & 3A Man and His Friends, Parts 1 & 2A Man and His Course, Parts 1 & 2A Man and His LordI found Weber's challenge to be a Finisher to be most relevant to me as a man in my forties.Finishers need vision - A focused pursuit.Finishers need single-mindedness - An undivided heart.Finishers need determination - A driving intensity.Finishers need faith - A biblical optimism. In conclusion, Tender Warrior is a book I will use as I guide my son and the young men I mentor. I recommend this book to fathers and sons, and small groups of men, young and not so young. It would also provide a useful starting point for a men's accountability group.

I can hardly believe the speed with which God's design for biblical manhood and womanhood has been decaying in American culture. I am so grateful for the legacy that my own parents have left behind for their four children, and multiple grand, and great grand children. My parents weren't perfect by any means, but they were godly and strove to be biblical in every aspect of life which nowadays is saying a ton. In a culture where idolatry, selfishness, and any semblance of character and integrity are woefully lacking - this book offers much needed help for men who take God, marriage, parenting,, and friendship seriously.Using personal examples, biblical examples, and principles based on God's design for biblical manhood exemplified in Jesus, Stu Weber has written a very good biblical manual for men to help them think and act in accordance with God's design for manhood. In a day where confusion reigns in regard to God's purpose for men and women this book gives clarity and practical teaching on the purpose, calling, meaning, and design for manhood. I highly recommend Weber's book as a helpful guide for men of any age.

This book, written by a conservative minister, had just two concepts in it that I found offensive -- that man is the "head of woman" and "that women should not lead men."Having said that, out of about 275 pages, the rest of the book had great concepts in it for what we need men to be in our culture. I mentor young adults and as a female I am concerned about all the young men I meet who were not raised with a father present -- where will they get the role models they need to become the men they were born to be. Books like this that describe how men can have deep conversations instead of just top-lining it all the time help at a time when there are few role models for young men and boys.I passed this book on to my boss who is a husband and a father and young enough to be my son and he said he would read it.It's a rare and worthwhile book.

Ive purchased at least two copies of this book, and whenever I lend them I never get them back! this one will be near and dear to your heart and is a must have, especially with today's abundance of gender dysphoria.

As a combat decorated veteran, Stu Weber can take a concept and frame it in a way every vet can grasp and identify with. I've given away at least 30 copies of this book (so far) because it helped me realize some of the things I needed to come to grips with before I could move fwd as a father, husband and man after a deployment. I've read it three times- this summer will make it 4- because the truths are living, just like the Word.

This is one of the first books I read about Christianity and Man's role as a Christian, and still one of the best! i have re-read this book several times, and I continue to fine value in this book. Stu Weber's style is captivating. I recommend this book to all Christians and even more to non-believers, as I am sure this will wet the appetite to seek more of the truth about Christ, and what role men are called to in this world of ever confusing gender roles.

Superb! I wish I had been able to read this book forty years ago when I first got married, and was raising my own kids, but I couldn't, I fell far-short of being the husband and father my wife and kids needed and deserved. Guys, if at all possible, read this book before you even start dating, or at least before you get married because it could make a LOT of difference in your marriage and relationships.

The sound was stabbing, slicing, shivering, like metal scraping against stone. Eragon's teeth vibrated in sympathy, and he covered his ears with his hands, grimacing as he twisted around, trying to locate the source of the noise. Saphira tossed her head, and even through the din, he heard her whine in distress. Eragon swept his gaze over the courtyard twice before he noticed a faint puff of dust rising up the wall of the keep from a foot-wide crack that had appeared beneath the blackened, partially destroyed window where Blödhgarm had killed the magician. As the squeal increased in intensity, Eragon risked lifting a hand off one ear to point at the crack. "Look!" he shouted to Arya, who nodded in acknowledgment. He replaced his hand over his ear. Without warning or preamble, the sound stopped.Eragon waited for a moment, then slowly lowered his hands, for once wishing that his hearing was not quite so sensitive. Just as he did, the crack jerked open wider--spreading until it was several feet across--and raced down the wall of the keep. Like a bolt of lightning, the crack struck and shattered the keystone above the door to the building, showering the floor below with pebble-sized rocks. The whole castle groaned, and from the damaged window to the broken keystone, the front of the keep began to lean outward. "Run!" Eragon shouted at the Varden, though the men were already scattering to either side of the courtyard, desperate to get out from under the precarious wall. Eragon took a single step forward, every muscle in his body tense as he searched for a glimpse of Roran somewhere in the throng of warriors. At last Eragon spotted him, trapped behind the last group of men by the doorway, bellowing madly at them, his words lost in the commotion. Then the wall shifted and dropped several inches, leaning even farther away from the rest of the building, pelting Roran with rocks, knocking him off balance and forcing him to stumble backward under the overhang of the doorway. As Roran straightened from a crouch, his eyes met Eragon's, and in his gaze, Eragon saw a flash of fear and helplessness, quickly followed by resignation, as if Roran knew that, no matter how fast he ran, he could not possibly reach safety in time. A wry smile touched Roran's lips. And the wall fell. Text © 2011 by Christopher Paolini.

I thoroughly enjoyed Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance of Chris Paolini's The Inheritance Cycle series. Originally intended as a trilogy, their bestselling success spawned a fourth book, which was a very welcome addition. I have since handed them down to my nephew where they are enjoying a new life with a new generation.Though they've been out for quite awhile now, I have to be honest and say I bought them years ago, and only got them off the shelf a few months ago. Having been grown up as an avid fan of Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings, and the usual fantasy fare, I was pretty excited to re-enter that universe. These have been reviewed ad infinitum; so I think I can really only add to the discussion my own experience with the four book as a 47-year-old reader. I was a bit concerned that they might be written a bit too much for kids, as I'd heard they were. But, I have to say, I was definitely misinformed. These are as applicable to adults as the Harry Potter or Hunger Games books or any other well-written fantasy tales that were initially marketed to the teen reader market, but obviously found runaway success with readers from all age brackets. In short, each of the four books was a very fun read, and I would absolutely recommend the series to anyone with an interest in the fantasy genre.

A very engaging read. Don't be deterred by criticism. I did not read this series for a long time after hearing much criticism of the young author and now regret that I did not read it sooner. There is a review on here stating that the book is only decent for a 17 year old to have written but not an adult, and that is nonsense. You would not know it was written by a 17 year old unless you were told and it is criticized unfairly because of his age. He does not "borrow" fantasy elements from more widely known authors any more than those widely known authors borrowed from ancient fairy tails. Tolkien and Le Guinn were not any more creative, many fantasy elements in their stories go back to before their stories as well. But this author is judged much more harshly and unjustly because he is young by people who are unable to form their own opinions and blindly judge the worth of a book by its acclaim. And the fact that this book is not a cult classic such as Tolkein's should not affect its merit. It is a very good book and is only insulted by those jealous of the young author's success.

My favorite dragon series is Paolini's. Why do I like it? Of course, Saphira, the Blue Dragon , is a wonderful character. She is a wise and wise-cracking creature with a tremendous sense of humor. Eragon is a believable hero who grows in complexity as he ages and meets the many challenges in his life. We meet elves, dwarves, sorcerers, monsters, witches , a werecat and humans , some good, some evil. What sets this series above the typical dragon fantasy is its very practical understanding of politics. I am amazed at the astuteness of the young author of these works. He understands the impact politics has on our morality and presents numerous examples of the dangers all of us face when presented with political decision making.

Can’t say it’s the best written book ever if you’re an adult. Much of the book is written a little vanilla plain. However, it is a very good story and well written considering Pasolini was fifteen years old when he started to write this novel. This entire series is worth reading a few times. Don’t waste your time on the movie as it’s nothing like the book and the only thing used from the book in the movie is the character names.

I thoroughly enjoyed Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance of Chris Paolini's The Inheritance Cycle series. Originally intended as a trilogy, their bestselling success spawned a fourth book, which was a very welcome addition. I have since handed them down to my nephew where they are enjoying a new life with a new generation.Though they've been out for quite a while now, I have to be honest and say I bought them years ago, and only got them off the shelf a few months ago. Having been grown up as an avid fan of Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings, and the usual fantasy fare, I was pretty excited to re-enter that universe. These have been reviewed ad infinitum; so I think I can really only add to the discussion my own experience with the four books as a 40-something-year old reader. I was a bit concerned that they might be written a bit too much for kids, as I'd heard they were. But, I have to say, I was definitely misinformed. On pages: 237-244 and 261-268 there is a black strip at the top, the margins are screwed up, the page numbers are at different heights. I'm assuming that this is a printing issue, so I'm doing a return. There is also a lot of adhesive residue on the back cover.Edit 1: this is ridiculous. This replacement is also damaged, and mismade. The dust cover is bunched and slightly torn. The printing on the dust cover is off center, to the point that the spine text looks fully right aligned, not centered. Dropping to one star, because this is unacceptable.

I liked reading this book so that I could discuss it with my grandson who'd read it. He let me know he'd read the series, but warned me the movie wasn't so hot. I suppose for a fantasy novel (of which genre I rarely read), it was fine. The best part was enjoying with someone else. I think it's pretty impressive that the author wrote it at such a young age too. There's a lot of imagination here, but at times, I felt like Paolini was trying to be a Tolkein, and just adding a dragon into the mix.

32,634 words, 26 chapters, additional materialW. K. Marriot translationWhy was this written? If I wanted to conquer a country and become its prince, the first thing I’d need to know is how to get my own personal military. I didn’t find that information in this book. It seems to have been written for men who already have their own personal militaries. Yet most of the advice is about conquest. If they have their own personal militaries, why wouldn’t they already be experts in conquest?Someone who is already a prince would need to know about what to do after the conquest. He needs to know how to deal with his subjects and how to deal with other rulers without going to war. There should have been an entire chapter on diplomacy and international trade. The alternative to these things is destroying your own principality with perpetual war. Along these lines, after Machiavelli wrote THE PRINCE and before he published it, he wrote a small work entitled “The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca” that illustrated the importance of caution and diplomacy instead of endless conquests. The key was that princes should keep the limitations of their successors in mind when planning military campaigns. After all, princes die young sometimes.Nothing clear is presented about how a prince should deal with his subjects. A prince might need to kill them, but should leave their property and women alone. He should disarm them so they can’t overthrow him. But what if the principality is being invaded and he needs armed subjects to help him fight the invaders? Liberality is the quickest way to be despised by the subjects, but they should be given festivals and spectacles. It’s confusing and I may have missed it, but he provides no historical examples of princes that prevented unrest and those who failed to do so.What’s also confusing is what everyone focuses on when they talk about this book. I'm referring to the morality of the prince. Must he have a moral duty, breaking conventional rules only when they interfere with this duty? Or is it permissible for him to be a beast who only cares about his own pleasure and glory? I’m not sure what this book really says about that. However, THE PRINCE is a valuable early work of political science. The method is pretty good. Ideas are developed from axioms of human nature, then backed up with historical examples. It’s worth reading.2.8 stars

I often heard of this book but never read it and after reading it I am sorry I didn't pick it up sooner. Some people think that the book is cruel and calculating, but I think it is very insightful of how governments take over countries and keep their citizens in line. Some times it means killing the old administration (literally) and other times it means employing citizens in new territories that you are trying to take over. The writing wasn't convoluted at all. It was very clear and well written. This is definitely a book you can read over and over again.

A great thesis worth multiple readings. This collection of essays and letters are one man's fascinating take on politics and war. The only thing which takes away from the overall work are the appendices which try to spoon-feed conclusions as opposed to providing context for the greater work.To be able to read and understand this book correctly, you must be prepared to spend some time understanding the politics and conflicts of the time. That being said, it's the only way to do it and be able to grasp more than surface conclusions. Being able to read and understand the work changed my understanding of not just politics, but also my interactions with different groups both socially and in my work life.

The idea of "reviewing" this is more than a little silly -- it's arguably the most influential non-religious work of all time -- but I thought a few comments & historical notes might still be worthwhile."The Prince" was essentially the first work of political realism in Western thought -- the first work of Western political philosophy that concerned itself not with the ideal government (as Plato had done in his _Republic_) but with the practical realities of getting and holding power. To describe the impact and influence of that willingness, that first notion that conventional morality might not be the best guide to success, would be as impossible a task as trying to summarize the influence of Galileo. Napoleon is rumored to have written extensive annotations to this book; Stalin allegedly kept a copy on his nightstand. Half of Shakespeare's villains (Iago, Richard III, etc.) derive their character in whole or part from this text. Most of this book is extraordinarily controversial, even today, yet still fundamentally difficult to argue against; there's a reason the Catholic Church kept it on the _Index Librorum Prohibitorum_ for centuries. If you're looking for food for thought, it's here. This particular kindle edition is fairly good; the text is cleanly presented with few typographical or scanning errors, and the translator has clearly made a significant effort to present the text as accurately as possible in a modern translation, with several footnotes detailing possible alternate translations of particular words, etc. In addition to the text of _The Prince_, this edition also includes two shorter historical works by Machiavelli, "Descriptions of the Methods Adopted by the Duke Valentino When Murdering Vitellozzo Vitelli, Oliverotto da Fermo, the Signor Pagolo, and the Duke di Gravina Orsini," and "The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca." ("Duke Valentino" is an alternate name for Cesare Borgia). Both additional texts are, in essence, case studies of how contemporary historical figures achieved success by acting according to the precepts which Machiavelli outlines in the main body of the text, and as such are very useful and interesting companion reads. As a final note, if anyone has recommendations for histories of Italy in this time period, please link me to them in a comment -- after reading this, I want to read more about the era. Thanks!
