A good book to read!

This book contains 180 devotions that focus on defending or explaining what Christians believe. Each devotion was two pages in length and started with a verse or two from the Bible. The body of the devotion usually began with a critical comment about Christianity by an atheist or non-Christian. This was followed by a counter argument by a Christian scholar or apologist (like Michael Behe, Craig Evans, Ravi Zacharias, C.S. Lewis, William Lane Craig, and the authors).A large number of the devotions were taken from Lee Strobel's "Case for..." books, so they talked about things like evidence for God creating the universe and time (which they implied He did through the Big Bang), the question of suffering, and evidence for Jesus' divinity, life, resurrection, and death. Each devotion ended with a short thought for reflection. If you've read Strobel's books or other in-depth apologetics books, you probably won't find much new here. However, if you (or a friend) are interested but don't have the time to read those books, this is a nice, bite-sized way to get informed.I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers.

I saw the movie, A Case For Christ with my family last year. We loved it! While trying to disprove the newfound faith of his wife, the award-winning journalist, Lee Strobel, ends up becoming a Christian. He is now a Christian apologist and has written many books about faith. This year, Lee Strobel coauthored the devotional, The Case For Christ, with another leading apologist for Christianity, Mark Mittelberg. I haven’t read many devotionals that help believers understand the evidence for Christianity. This devotion will equip you to “give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (I Peter 3:15)“Biblical faith is not irrational trust. It’s not a blind leap in the dark or a willful rejection of evidence in order to cling to a sentimental superstition or tradition.”Each entry draws from the facts of Scripture as well as science, history, philosophy, archaeology, and experience. Each of the 180 devotions begins with a short Bible passage, followed by an argument that challenges Christianity.Strobel and Mittelberg provide solid answers to skeptic’s questions based on logic and evidence.“We wanted to compose these daily devotionals in a way that will not only reinforce the faith of Christians but also make the evidence for the Christian faith accessible to spiritually curious readers—including students—who are interested in better assessing the case for biblical faith.”One of my favorite devotions explained how gravity shows God’s power and divine nature. If the universe was positioned just an inch differently, human life couldn’t exist.“Of all the possible settings on the dial, from one side of the universe to the other, it happens to be situated in the exact right fraction of an inch to make our universe capable of sustaining life.”These thought-provoking devotions will help solidify your understanding of why you believe what you believe.

This is a devotional. But it is written in an apologetic venue. Apologetics is Lee Strobel's theology specialty. A former atheist, Strobel has written many apologetics venue. He also serves as a teachingpastor at a Texas Church, Woodlands Church. These are some of his many apologetics books. Among his books are THE CASE FOR CHRIST, THE CASE FOR FAITH, and seasonal books like THE CASE FOR EASTER. Mark Mittelberg is the other author for this devotional. He is a Christian author, speaker, and outreach strategist. In this devotional, Strobel and Mittelberg begin this book with an Introduction. They spread the content across 358 actual pages of material. Each devotion begins with a Bible verse. Each devotion is about two pages long. Each devotion ends with a food for thought segment after the devotion. Strobel and Mittelberg end with Notes for each chapter, author bios for Strobel and Mittelberg.I have just finished these devotions early this evening. As i was reading them for review, I knew that I had only a limited amount of time to go through this book. But these devotions are meant to be read maybe once a day. The material, which is heavy on loving God and Christ with all our minds and all else we have, and sharing His message with others, may be easy to grasp intellectually. But they are hard to apply to one's life. I was glad that the authors leave out politics, for the most part. But I could pretty much guess where they lean. At a time where the United States is so divided, this divide affects the Church between the Religious right (who focus on opposing abortion and same-sex marriage and the Religious Left (who focus on opposing racism, social and economic injustice and man's cruelty to man). I found this book encouraging and challenging.I recommend this book for everyone. It is especially intended for Christians at all levels of maturity.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to give a favorable review of this book.
