I have read every word. . . sometimes over and over. . . and transcribed many of them into a notebook. The strength of this book is in the heart and soul of the author — an author who apparently has thought long, hard, and sincerely about such concepts as “purpose,†“meaning,†and “faith,†and who understands that sometimes (or always) truth can be communicated better in a fictional story than in a systematic dogma.These honest stories are filled with trauma and hope, tragedies and blessings. Sometimes I wish real life wasn’t so real. . . and life wasn’t surrounded by death. Giacomino Nicolazzo clearly states that he will not explain God to you. In fact, unless you completely buy into the “with you, within you, around you†life, you won’t see God in some of these stories or you will see the total absence of a true, loving God. But what you will see is realistic characters at crossroads in their lives wrestling with choices that either cloud or clear up their vision and determine their fate. It takes a special insight to see God in everything, and I didn’t grasp that insight until 300 pages in.At first I was disturbed that the publication editing was not as fine detailed as it could have been. You will notice some obvious mistakes. The same character’s name is spelled differently in adjacent paragraphs, wrong words are type-set and right words are missed, homonyms creep in, new edits forgot to remove the first draft. But these are small and far between. Half way through I realized two things. This is from an Italian company publishing in English. And the mistakes actually contribute to the stories authenticity. Don’t read this as a refined publication with the Oxford English Dictionary stamp of approval, but rather read each story a personal letter from a close friend telling you the most intense event of their life with all the personal emotion they can muster.How it can be written and published so cheaply I don’t know. The illustrations for each chapter are full of beauty and meaning. The “Introduction†is worth the price of admission. And chapter 15, “Heaven,†will take you feet off solid ground and plant them insecurely on the total mystery of all life and love.
I highly recommend this book of short stories, to everyone, you will be inspired by these lovely stories.I have read all of Giacomino Nicolazzo’s books, and I must say he is a great story teller.There was something very special about these vignettes, they touched your heart and soul.Kudos to Mr. Nicolazzo... keep them coming!
I just finished this book. One of the best that I have read. But the book you will love it!
Very touching and poignant stories. I gave one as a gift and they loved it. I will read this over and over as the stories are real. I look forward to more books by Mr Nicolazzo
I purchased the paperback book and read it in one sitting! The author has a very creative and descriptive style of writing that makes you part of the story and not just a reader!
