This product's packaging can be misleading, but overall I am happy with the product. I only wish that more stories were included! When I received the audio CD, the back of the case lists six tracks (one introductory track which tells a little about the author, then five stories) but when I looked at the actual CD's label it has seven tracks (one introductory and six stories). Upon listening, this audio disc has seven tracks: introductory and six stories. I found listening to this particular artist tell the stories very enjoyable and loved how he managed to make the character voices very different. I anticipate listening to this disc with my daughter for short car rides.

Still, I read it in translation, so my life is rather OK.

A collection of the stories--not the complete anthology. Mercifully not edited for political correctness. Illustrations terrific.

I read these wonderful stories to my five year old daughter 40 years ago, we still remember them with such affection that I purchased them for her as a Christmas present. The stories were written by Kipling for hisdaughter and are called "Just So" stories because he would attempt variations when he told them to her..and she would interrupt him saying, "Oh no, Daddy..tell them just so.Sadly she died soon after these events.The illustrations are by different artista for each story so that adds interest to the publication.

I bought this book for an eight year old. The stories are written in text on pages with less illustration than I expected. I fear this may be a bit advanced for an early reader.

I cannot speak highly enough about this wonderful book. It is meant to be read just as it is written and I started reading it to my twin boys when they were 4 years old. Immersing them in such beautiful language is such a gift. They never get tired of hearing the same stories over and over, especially "The Elephant's Child" with his satiable curtiosity! I particularly like this edition of it, because the illustrations are vibrant and interesting, without the book costing a fortune. Each story is very creative and I don't find it offensive at all. It was written in 1900, for crying out loud, and those kids turned out just fine, if you ask me. When your child gets to the stage where they never stop asking questions, you will especially enjoy the accompanying poem at the end of Elephant's Child. This is an absolute must have in any home library. When you read it, just make sure you use your funny voices to make the characters come alive.

Bought it to read with my 6 year old as I've enjoyed reading the R. Kipling stories as a child.

Beautifully illustrated, and who doesn't love Just So Stories? My daughter's favorite when she was small was about the Elephant Child, because she liked the way the great, green, greasey Limpopo River rolled off the tongue. :)

Along the River was not at all what the subtitle A Chinese Cinderella Novel implied. Before the story even starts, there is a short prologue describing that Along the River is a young adult version of author Adeline Yen Mah's own life and the stories she made up as a child. This was really disappointing considering the book was purchased with the thought that it would be more like the fairy tale Cinderella (a lot of Western and Eastern folklore correlate) rather than based on a biography.Aside from the fairy tale mislead, the prose isn't that great either. Granted the book is easy to read and flows well for a younger age group, but the plot is slow moving and hard to get into. The characters are all likeable, but the story just seems to be an account of their daily lives.The time transition is also really strange. The book starts off in 1942 (CC's story) only to quickly switch to 1104 (Mei Lan's story). Which wouldn't be so bad, except that there are some very Western phrases that completely blow the ambiance of the 1104 setting, like go buy cages for the crickets "and keep the change". Although, Adeline Yen Mah certainly can make a cricket match (the bugs, not the sport) interestingly exciting.Overall, the book is recommended for a very young age group who is just becoming interested in the Chinese culture and wants an introductory look into Chinese life in two different eras. But for a more advanced reader and someone who already has that introductory knowledge, there are better Chinese books and writers who have more fully captured the ideals and concepts of early Chinese life (especially for girls).

I read this book for the under hyped readathon it had less than 300 goodreads ratings. It was great. It is historical fiction with Chinese culture, some words in Chinese characters (English translation in parenthesis), art, poetry, and reincarnation! Fantastic book!

Freaking out, you run. At the moment, you don't care what people think about you as long as you get out of there. Jumping from building to building, you suddenly come to a dead end. Suddenly, you realize your falling over the edge but before you can catch yourself,its to late.....This is what happened to a Chinese girl named CC. After a two week coma, she wakes up finding herself strangely interested in a painting named Along The River. Of course, this isn't strange considering she convinced her name is Mei Lan who lives in ancient China. She is forced to go to a therapist where she tells Mei Lan's story. When she is recovered, she finally gets to listen to what she thought was her life.Read this book to find out Mei Lan's story from having her step mother break her toes to trying to run away with a servant boy.I'm not gonna say this book wasn't good because honestly, I think the whole book was planned and written well. Mei Lan's story was actually the author's story rewritten. The reason I didn't like this book is because it just wasn't my type of book. But everyone is different so if you like adventurous,historical fiction and romance all combined in one, I would definitely check this book out!

I had high hopes after this book was recommended to me for my child that just doesn't sleep. My other kids slept just fine, but this one doesn't seem to need sleep. She's almost 10 months old and I haven't slept more than 45 minutes since she was born and she only takes a single 10 minute nap during the day most days, I'm beyond exhausted.The big bummer is that I was already doing all of these things instinctively, so the book was pretty useless for me. I wanted to cry myself after reading it, knowing I truly have done everything, that there is nothing left to try, and I will just have to be patient, hoping my long term sleep deprivation won't affect my health too much, knowing I just have a child that doesn't need as much sleep as many other kids. I'm holding out hope that once she's weaned or once she gets older, she might start to sleep a little longer.I would still recommend it to someone that maybe had no child experience or was looking to switch from a different method they had been using that wasn't working. There are a lot of suggestions that should help most babies - they helped my other babies, just not this one, especially for parents that do not like or had failed attempts with the Cry It Out method.

Husband and I had been struggling with sleep since our baby was 4 months old. We started to sleep train and it was a disaster. Prior to that baby had always bed shared with us (after spending 3-4 months in a co-sleeper) so it was extremely hard trying to put him in a dark room all by himself. It just did not work. Our son cried for days on end and I really regret doing that.My husband found this book and bought it. I'd also seen it but wasn't impressed with reviews. Anyway, I started reading through it and became greatly encouraged by the authors assessments and advice regarding sleep around my baby's age (10 months at the time). I felt validated in my bed sharing philosophy and also felt like it helped to normalize what we were going through. A lot of websites that want you to buy (literally) into sleep training will pathologize your child's sleep when it isn't pathological! Sure enough, after employing some gentle sleep recommendations from this book, and trusting our mama/papa instincts, we saw results. For us, it was key to cut the night nursing as it was getting out of hand (3-4 times a night at 10 months!). I mean, I wanted to be one of these breastfeeding all night and day mamas but I couldn't function at my new job on the sleep I was getting. Anyway if you need some encouragement and some gentle suggestions then this book is for you. After reading I felt like I knew what to do the whole time and I was now able to listen to those instincts more effectively.

Hands down this book was a lifesaver and the best sleep book I read.My baby had food protein intolerance and she would wake in pain screaming for months. After a torturous elimination diet she went on hypoallergenic formula which helped her, but after months of moving from the Rock and play to bed sharing with tummy discomfort it was just easier to continue that way.Finally moved her from the rock and play to a bassinet around 5 months but she was still spending the majority of the night in my arms until she started army crawling and sitting up. At that point I knew I had to get her in the crib.At about 9 months she's already learned behaviors, a sleep regression is about to start. I knew I was in for it.I did a lot of research and knew CIO wasn't for us. Just to appease some people I actually tried it. Twice by the 15th minute of CIO her crying was so intense she threw up. Nope. no. Nothing about that makes me feel ok.So I tried the Sleep Lady Shuffle. That is ridiculous. It's basically modified CIO. It isn't gentle. You sit in the room while they cry and look right at you and wonder why you're not helping them. I was like, dam, if we're going to do CIO at least let me not be in this room watching her desperate face. I kept thinking I was doing it wrong. I'd try to calm her or put down and she'd feel the crib and start balling. That sleep lady turned the crib and bedtime into a scary monster.This book NO Cry Sleep Solution saved my sanity. I moved the air mattress into her room for 3 weeks. I started out following the bedtime routine and phases. I started laying down holding her which gradually changed to sitting holding, putting her down faster so she's aware of where she is keeping my hands on her in the crib. When she's first wake up I'd get her and lay down with her sometimes I fell asleep in there. Eventually it changed to where I could sit and comfort her and put her back down.Every idea and method in this book made sense to me. It actually is kind and gentle. There is no crying involved. She slept, I slept. She sleeps through the night now in her own crib while I'm in the other room and it only took us 6 weeks to figure out. She's excited during her bedtime routine and by the end she's putting her head down.

I bought this book because I was desperate to help my daughter sleep and use a more gentle approach to sleep training. I was looking for a method that minimized crying but what I learned from the methods outlined in this book was that crying is involved but you are with your child while they cry. I ended up doing the Ferber method and in 2-3 nights we saw a vast improvement. I decided it was better to allow some mild-moderate crying for a few days rather than have her cry on and off for a few weeks. In the long run I think our method allowed for less crying overall. Also, I was trying to read this book on my phone in the middle of the night while I was up with my daughter and it is extremely difficult to follow. I had no idea where I had left off and the book seemed to jump around a lot. If you are interested in the methods outlined in this book you can simply do a google search on gentle sleep training methods and you will find the information easily.

Good read. This paired with the zen sleep sack has given me my sanity back! 🙌 My LO is still waking up 2x a night to nurse, but I can deal with that. No more fighting me and fighting sleep! Wish I would have read before it got so bad. I definitely recommend the sleep sack too.

This book, for a bible, is far from as useful as the name suggests. If you are looking to learn the basics and get some information on the history of social media this book could be useful. Yet it is so outdated that when a chapter still includes AIM as a useful tool, you have to ask how relevant this book is, especially as a "social media bible". The fact that this book is the 2012 version and only has one chapter on mobile devices and traditional media, twitter, ect, leaves an unsatisfied feeling for the reader.The second issue that I have with this book is the fact that it is written for basic users but says it is the bible for business success. If businesses these days are looking to this for pro tips, tools, and strategies they are going to be sorely disappointed and unprepared.But if you know very little to nothing about social media and want to read a lot of pages about stuff that is not relevant today but will give you the back story to media, this is the book for you. And if you happen to be new the QR codes are way too complicated and seem confusing in the book. The most use I found in this book is that it is good for learning definitions, if you don't already know them.

The authors tackle a mighty big subject here. But I didn't know how big until I saw at the size of this book. And the thing is, most of the chapter subjects - social networking, blogging, vlogging, microblogging, Search, Gaming, etc - could easily merit several entire books unto themselves.The authors rely heavily on what are probably recorded statements from industry leaders in the various fields, and verbal transcripts tend to ramble on a bit when committed to paper. The transcripts could have used some heavy editing, which was probably impossible due to bruised corporate egos.I wouldn't call this book a "bible", mainly because the subject is much too large for any one book to cover in-depth. But this book is the best attempt yet to cover the scope of the rapidly growing and evolving social media phenomenon. And as someone in the search marketing field, the book really opened my eyes to exactly how big the Social Media field really is, and for that, I give the book 5 stars.

After considerable research and reading over a dozen books on Social Media this year, SMB is far and away the best. And best by at least an order of magnitude.Read the Social Media Bible FIRST before you read any other book on Social Media.(I rank "Here Comes Everybody" by Clay Shirky as a strong second; however, it's written for a slightly different purpose.)My company is in process of creating an online Library Of Mind Mapping using the ideas, suggestions, and solid usable knowledge so well recorded in SMB. I love these stories, I had read the first one previously, and when I saw this compilation, I pounced on it. The stories set in Cherringham - shades of St Mary's Mead. Three cosy crime mystery and all following each other, there are twelve written in total, and I can't wait to read the next 9 episodes. The mysteries are good and keeps you guessing to the end, with some twists and turns, the stories are the kind that once you start you don't want to stop.

It's barely worth 3 stars, more like 2.5. The writing is clunky, the characters wooden and situations stereotyped. The stories are short, written in short scenes that almost invariably end with a sentence beginning with 'And', such as "And then she went into the kitchen". And as if that wasn't enough, there are a few such sentences thrown into the general text for good measure. I managed to read through episodes 1-3 because I had the book I but won't be bothering with any more.

The issue for me and the reason for two stars goes beyond writing mechanics. The plot is simplistic, the characters underdeveloped, the conflict almost nonexistent. I got no sense of tension, no sense of danger, of something valuable at risk of being lost, no real connection between the characters beyond what the writers "tell" us. Everything is lovely to start with and stays that way to the end. The story is a classic example of telling rather than showing. I think that's what these two writers should work on since they have the basic story elements. Now, make them come alive.

This is a compilation of three books that came out as a serial. I will probably move on to the next compilation in this series. I'm all into the cozy mystery now and this series didn't disappoint. It is well written by two authors, one Brit and one American. The main characters, Jack and Sarah, are likable and work well in the story. The stories themselves are not all that complex and hard-boiled. It is more about the two sleuths determining that a crime has occurred and they pursue it until the culprit is cornered or gives themselves away. I like the setting in a small town. I like that Jack is an ex-pat and has a painful past. You know that he and Sarah will get romantic at some point but I do like that they don't even think about it in this book.

The Mysteries:  Each mystery story is well-plotted.  They are short books, yet a sufficiently varied cast is presented.  The suspects in each mystery are believable and possess compelling motives.  The clues are cleverly scattered throughout the stories.  The suspense was sufficient (without having to resort to the cliched throwing of the protagonists to the mercy of the culprits).  The big reveals at the end were worth the wait.The characters: Sarah Edwards and Jack Brennan are the two main protagonists in this series. Sarah is a thirty-something web designer. She’s just returned to the Cotswold village of Cherringham, where she grew up, with her teenage daughter and younger son. The story opens after she’s divorced her cheating husband and moved out of London.Jack is a fifty-something former NYPD homicide detective. The story opens with him living on an old canal boat moored at Cherringham. He lives with his darling dog, Riley and no one else as he was widowed a year ago. He is living the retirement plan he and his wife had created prior to her death. To the reader, Sarah and Jack are both quite likeable. Even if Jack was a bit gruff and guarded with Sarah at the beginning. Cherringham is a small town where locals remain a bit weary of outsiders. Jack, as an American, bears the brunt of this. Even Sarah, as someone who has only just moved back to the village, is sometimes treated as an outsider. The softening of Jack’s edges is realistically gradual and enjoyable to witness. The same can be said for the ‘toughening up’ of Sarah.There is a strong friendship between these two that develops across these first three stories.  Will it eventually head towards a romance? That’s not a given. We’ll have to read more to find out.The setting:  A beautiful, cosy, charming Cotswold village come alive on the pages of this book (or through your speakers ).  The scenes descriptions work with the story and never detract from the tale. "As if it were a prop, a lone swan, looking sooty and dishevelled, circled near them as they sat at a picnic table right on the edge of the water."Overall, these stories are sweet and quick and easy to read.  I enjoyed this compilation and look forward to trying some more.  I think there about 21 episodes out by now.Narration:  Very good narration by Neil Dudgeon for this audiobook.  I think I was falling in love with the sound of his voice.  Probably because he was giving me visions of Mr. Darcy with that gorgeous English accent of his.  On a more serious note, character distinction was pretty clear.  There was sufficient distinction between the lead male and female characters.  There was good distinction between older and younger characters.  When Dudgeon slipped into his American accent for Jack's character, it was well done.  There were no awkward stumbles or pauses in the narration.  (5/5)Production: Sound quality was good. The audio was clear and sound levels were consistent. Pauses between chapters was sufficient.  There was no disturbing background noise.  However, quite frequently the audio and text fell out of sync.  (3.5/5)Overall Experience:  Overall, this story translated to audio quite well.  (4/5)

Each "book" in this series of 27 short story mysteries has three separate stories. - 9 books in all They need to be read in order as the characters are continuously built upon. For example, Sarah's children grow up.On a regular basis the ex-NYC detective and local graphic designer are called upon to sort events that don't seem right. There are no heinous and brutal crimes, no graphic mayhem or sex. Cursing is almost unheard and real justice usually prevails., The "detectives" are likeable and don't have super powers. These are just nice short mysteries for time at the beach or cozied up to the fire on a wintry day. They are not complex just enjoyable.

There's "cozy" as in Miss Marple and there's cozy as in Ruth Rendell's detective series.This series is a bit too superficial for me. Not enough setting/mood/atmosphere (although the village and people have a lot of potential), not enough character development. It has the feeling of being written using software. Sorry, but as a reader of hundreds of mysteries, this series doesn't satisfy.

Overall a 5 star series of books. The writing is tight, without repetition, the characters are interesting & I like them & the situations are unique & not all murders. I appreciate the fact that they don't kill off everyone in the village one by one, the cops aren't always being represented as stupid idiots, the folks solving the mysteries are everyday folks, one with a little experience & our investigators aren't suspected of every crime. It's a refreshing take.

Being an alpha male is more than wearing nice clothes or having a lot of money. For me, becoming an alpha male is more of becoming the best version of yourself by being successful in whatever that you do. It is by believing in yourself that you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it. This book is a good guide on how to do all that and how to be on top of your game. I really enjoyed reading it, it is very inspiring.

I really liked the principles provided in this book. I think too many men who try to be an alpha male think that being agressive all of the time is the way to become a societal top dog but I believe that to be the furthest thing from the truth. It seems that agression is deeply rooted in fear of inadequacies. I think the true way to be alpha is to be a well rounded individual which is what the book seems to recommend.

The book is much thinner than I expected. The print is large and the pages have a lot of blank space. I just feel like there could be so much more to it. The subject is interesting and the author has some valuable insight into what it means to be an "Alpha Male" but he doesn't go far enough. I can tell that he wants to be concise and doesn't seem to believe that over-intellectualizing is worthy of the purpose of the book, which I suppose is to tell you in a nutshell that you should really stop thinking so much and be a man of action. I like some of the 40 rules but some seem to be repeated and others are just common sense. I get much more inspiration from reading someone like Jean-Paul Sartre, whose existentialism was basically the same idea as this book but in more sophisticated terms. It's a worthy effort and I hope it benefits those who read it, but I regret spending $15 on it. The author would probably say that my regret is a sign of my weakness but I think that it is a result of my social conditioning. Breaking free of that social conditioning is a key ingredient in his formula, so I am following the formula by analyzing and criticizing my criticism of the book.

This book is very poorly written, containing many grammatical errors that could be improved by a simple word processing grammar check. It reads like a rambling high school term paper done with little to no research. Some of the advice is pertinent, though somewhat obvious and was likely just plagiarized from some dating websites. Most of this information can be found for free by simply googling or searching on YouTube, "how to be an alpha male."

Becoming the man you in-vision can be a hard task. It takes years of practice and circumstantial learning to understand how to manifest your confidence, aggressiveness, and self-worth. Autheor Sean Lysaght will save you time and embarrassment by giving you inside tips to minimizing your growing pains. It worked for me and can work for you. 5 Stars.
