To an intermediate Python developer, I think I would rather take the couple good ones from this book, and not look back.1/3 are programming interview questions that I could get from Hackerrank,Over 100 pages are page-filler space-math junk that is frankly arbitrary in terms of getting better at Python, and being spoon-fed pygame code over and over again.and 1/3 is genuinely interesting exercises (algorithms especially)

I thought “Impractical Python Projects” was an interesting and creative demonstration of the problem solving capabilities of the popular Python programming language. The exercises are fun and thought provoking. The subject matter was presented in an entertaining and amusing manner. This book improved my programming skills, vocabulary, and galactic knowlege.

I have 10 years+ programming experience and 5 recent years extensively on python. I found this book interesting and useful. It's designed to follow a complete beginners book or class. What is unique about this book is that it uses a project-based approach instead of python.org module tutorials. I found myself rewarded immediately after go through each project instead of traditionally I need to finish entire python training before you can write an application. As I walked through the projects, I learn a lot of useful python modules like pygame, pylint, matplotlib. A lot of those are the libraries used for scientific computing! Python is THE language for data science and quick engineering work. I encourage learning in fun by playing games. Five star!

My favorite is the genetic algorithm, as applied to the breeding of giant rats. The author illustrates how to use the modules with concrete, entertaining examples and includes lines of code. When a friend told me about this book and that it was such an inspiration to her, I had my doubts. How could any author know what Jesus had to say to us? Well, I gave it a try. With the accompanying scripture, Sarah was surely led by the Holy Spirit when writing this book. I feel that God has given me great growth through the words He gave her that were just for me. I could write a book telling how God has gone before me with the subtitle I have given this book. My life was saved from a death by hypothermia because the words from Jesus that morning told me that He is my strength. I am 73 years old and have mobility issues.. One of our horses got out of the pasture and I thought I could get her back to the barn. We had 12 inches of snow during the night, but she was just outside the door, so I slipped my bare feet into a pair of shoes, grabbed a lightweight jacket, a lead rope, two canes and a carrot. She munched on the carrot as I attempted to get the rope on her. Well, she figured out what I was doing, grabbed the carrrot and ran for the corn field and I was sure I could catch up with her and coax her back to the barn. I stumbled and fell. My canes just slipped on the snow and I couldn't get up. I started crawling and as I tired, belly crawling to a house that was closer than mine. I was getting so tired, I just wanted to lay my head down and rest for a bit. As I layed my head down, I heard a voice telling me not to lay my head down, not to close my eyes, just look for the next spot you're going to. You have the strength. Every time I wanted to lay my head down, I heard the same voice and felt revived enough to go on. I made it to the other house; my neighbor called 911 and medical help arrived. Even though I was in shock and my temperature was just below 95 degrees, I was totally lucid. I give thanks to God for urging me on. At my age,He must still have things for me to do in His service. My only injury was slightly bruised kidneys from the fall that healed quickly without any complications. My husband came to emergency and was able to take me home. Before we left for the hospital, the horse came to the ambulance and bumped her head on it until the sheriffs tried to catch her. She ran to the barn door and waited for them to open the door and let her into her stall. I had traveled between 1/4 and 1/2 a mile. This is just one example of how knowing that Jesus is calling and always with us, leading us into His will and keeping us safe, holding me with His right hand and keeping me in His everlasting arms.

I cannot say enough good about this book. It feeds my soul everyday. It gives the background of the author, which I loved. The scripture at the bottom of the page is already written out for you, you don't have to go searching unless you want to read it in a different version, which is good too. Or if you just WANT to look up the scripture. In the back is an index that shows you different subjects if you would like to study that way. For instance if you are feeling worried that day or fearful it shows which page and what scripture to look up. And best of all, it's like Jesus is right there in the room with you talking to you PERSONALLY.

This is much nicer than the original version and has the scriptures quoted instead of just the references. It also has more scriptures than the original. It is sturdy and has the look and feel of quality.

I don't like the way this author speaks in first person to represent God, when a lot of the statements are inspirational in nature and don't come directly from The Bible. For example, one of the entries says "I arrange the events of each day to form you into this preconceived pattern. My everlasting Love is at work in every event in your life. On some days your will and Mine flow smoothly together...." The only two scriptures quoted for this passage are Isiah 64:8 and Psalm 27:8....the author definitely filled in some blanks because those scriptures don't convey what she wrote. If she filled in the blanks from other bible verses, they should be quoted.

My all-time favorite daily devotional. I have told LOADS of people about this book and have given this book to a few of them. This year is my third year of reading it. I'm not new to deepening my spirituality; but this book certainly was a surprise in that area. It has profoundly affected me, enlarging my faith!

This author writes as if God or Jesus is speaking in first person. The only book that you can trust that God or Jesus is speaking is the Bible. No other book can claim that authority. The publisher has since edited out what was in her first editions about how she started this. It was an occult practice.

I love this book! It is a daily encouragement to me and reminds me daily that He really does love me and care! Each day is only a page or even half a page, then there are scriptures at the bottom on which the day's devotion are based. I look up those scriptures and read the verses ahead of it and after it, to get the whole picture. I've always struggled with "feeling" or believing He loves me. I know it is just faith that is needed to believe what the Word says, but still this is such a daily help to me. It is also a real encouragement and it seems that often that days devotion is just what I need when going through a hard time. It feels like the Lord has planned it out that I receive the words that I need for that day and the scriptures that are the most fitting. Super book for any Christian!

This was a remarkable memoir, marked by its simplicity. There weren't any totally out of the box situations or occurrences in this memoir (which can't be helped, but nevertheless still gives it only four stars), but it was still excellent. When it comes down to it, if you are a person of reverential Christian faith, have a reverence for missions, or if you enjoy cultural studies, this book is for you. The religious tones in this book are not great by any means, but still present, as a forewarning. Great memoir, definitely my top 3.

I appreciate learning of new cultures through the life experiences of the writers. This life story was shared with humor, clarity and kept me pondering and thinking of a life immersed in such different cultures. Thank you Sabine for enriching my life.

I would recommend this book to young adults, adults, and anyone interested in anthropology. Unlike adults who go to study other cultures, Sabine actually lived it from ages 7 to 17. I have read criticism that she did not address political abuses by the government, but this is not about that. This is a memoir of a girl growing up in one culture but two cultural models - the Fayu and her German parents.

I loved this book. I went into it semi expecting not to like it as much as I did. I loved every part of it and do not agree with any of the less than stellar comments made about it. We are all entitled to our opinion and I respect those who do not feel this is a 5 star book. With that said.....I loved how the author was truly able to capture the feel of what her life was like with the Fayu. I felt as though I was right there along side her. I loved that the book was written in what sounded like a realistic account of what it would be like to live this life. I think she told her story well and without a doubt I have the utmost respect for this remarkable woman. Because of how she wrote it I could plainly see how difficult it was to fully feel a part of either world. I loved it so much I know I'll re-read it again one day.

A child of missionaries accompanies her parents into the remote jungle of Indonesian New Guinea. While not a serious work of ethnography it still provides interesting insights. The story of the girl begins when her parents are already committed to this career and tells us a lot about their lives, the organization of the station, the interactions with the natives, etc. This young woman shows us her perspective of events. A less interesting part is her return to civilization. If you are interested in New Guinea, the book gives you another view of this amazing place. This would also be an interesting read for a young woman for different reasons. This book is not new and came to my attention in a book about the transition from primitive to modern society by Jared Diamond. I thought it worth my time.

An interesting story to tell doesn't insure that the story will be told in an interesting way. Savine Kuegler doesn't help this reader get inside her set of unique experiences. I appreciate her struggles and wish her well, but couldn't really enjoy her memoir.

I laughed, I cried... I thoroughly enjoyed every page. I did not want the book to end. I would recommend this book to everyone!

this book was recommended by a friend regarding the people of New Guinea, to help understand the culture that these people have and how white Christians have helped to make peace among the tribes of the region, and bring about harmony and acceptance of each other, learning that God is their God as well.

Gorgeous! The text is a little small & can be difficult to read.

Unlike other photo-narratives on this often-mythologized kingdom, this practicing monk takes a sober, almost detached approach that reveals his calm. After a decade in the company of the Dalai Lama's tutor there, Tibetan refugee Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and now the Dalai Lama's French translator himself, French-born Ricard brings the same considered evaluation of Buddhist practice and culture that his sponsorship and appearance in the films "Brilliant Moon" and "The Spirit of Tibet" (see my Dec. 2012 reviews) demonstrate about his devotion to his mentors. What this has to do with Bhutan as a larger entity comes across more gradually, and the brief three pages introducing each of these eight sections of his brilliantly reproduced color photography, 1980-2007, convey this more vividly than the miniscule font (too small, let alone the captions even smaller) do in this admittedly handsome, compact text, translated by Ruth Sharman.About half of this content in words and images features or complements the surroundings of his dharma teacher in Bhutan. This complements Ricard's other treatments of him; it means that much of the photography documents monasticism and ceremonies around its operations. As for the country, this is not the best introduction, as no reading list, no map, and very little background is given about the region. The urbanization of many Bhutanese and the complications of modernization are barely glanced at. Intentionally, no doubt, but readers may want to consult other titles as well.The typeface is as noted tiny and may not be legible for some readers. The book is elegantly laid out, but rather small. You get much less attention to the natural landscape and everyday people, although some stunning depictions of scenery (not only the expected panoramic vistas--one of Everest on the plane's way from Kathmandu to Paro--but abstracted patterns in reflected water) introduce the terse overview of the nation and its situation as the last Tantric Buddhist realm.Taksang, the cover's Tiger's Lair, endures as the iconic image of the land, and its chapter shows it as before and then restored after the fire of 1998: it looks splendid in both incarnations. Sacred architecture and crafts show the incorporation of the spiritual landscape into art and costume, the Great Accomplishment ceremony, the intricate movements of dance and the composed presence of ritual. Ricard observes the "clear" lesson exemplifed by such as the Trongsar five-day festival dramatizing the message of Buddhism: "we are the architects of our own being." (153)While Ricard does not delve into his own manner of entry into such situations, one may assume his own position allows him a privileged status and a rare insider's perspective that allows him to bridge Himalayan contexts and Western expectations of what such mysterious presentations of Buddhism mean. Bhutan here shimmers more in its less commonly depicted textiles, paintings, and decorations that grace the inside walls of places perhaps prohibited to tourists, and his combination of exterior and interior illustrations works well to provide a Buddhist point of view.

Having just visited Bhutan the contents of this book give a very insightful view of the country, historical and political, accompanied by beautiful photographs. A wonderful reference book which has made my trip come alive and will be a lasting memory of a very spiritual and interesting country. However, if you are looking for a guide book this book would not meet your needs.
